To order scions:
Thank you for your query about ordering scionwood. The procedure I ask my prospective customers to follow is to furnish me with a wish list, a shipping address, a phone number where you can be reached, a desired ship date, and whether you want 6-inch or 12-inch sticks. Once you send that information and what is available, I will write an invoice and send it to you. Please do not send payment until you receive an invoice. I'll ask you to review the invoice for completeness and accuracy, and if everything looks good, you should send payment via check or money order (payable to Purvis Nursery & Orchard) since I am not set up here to handle credit cards or other forms of electronic payment. Requests are filled in the order in which payment is received. It would also be helpful if you let me know what USDA Zone you are in and if there are unusual situations in your microclimate. My orchard is oriented towards cold-hardy, disease resistant, or newer fruit cultivars that have high quality fruit.
To order rootstocks:
This year I was only able to acquire 10- to 24-inch high Manchurian apricot seedling rootstocks for grafting apricots (or for chip-budding in late July or early August) because they had no 2-3 footers. The cost is $5 each plus shipping. I need the number requested of the rootstock desired, a shipping address, a desired ship date, and a phone number and e-mail where you can be reached. I will use this information to write an invoice and send it to you. Payment is due upon receiving it, because the supply of rootstocks is limited, and requests will be filled on a first paid, first served basis. Payment should be made with a check or money order payable to Purvis Nursery & Orchard.
Suggestions for sources of other kinds of rootstock:
If you want to order apple rootstocks, I suggest you contact Cummins Nursery in NY State. If you want to order St. Julian A plum rootstocks, I suggest you contact Burnt Ridge Nursery in Washington State. If you want to order pear or American plum rootstocks, I suggest you contact Fedco Trees in Maine.
There is an interesting and very comprehensive thread about stone fruit rootstock-scion compatibility on the Growing Fruit forum. You can find it by googling "growingfruit rootstock graft compatibility."
